[Journal of the proceedings of the House of Lords], [1st to 15th June, 1647].

Manuscript, in a single hand, of a journal of the proceedings of the House of Lords in 1647. The manuscript records summaries of cases, including one concerning a gun fired at the Earl of Holland in Windsor Park; another concerning a black box containing documents referring to the forgery of an act of Parliament; and an account of the abduction of King Charles I from Holmby House. Many of the other entries concern the Army, including Parliamentary grants for the payment of the army; the formation of committees to oversee the suppression of insurrections in London; and a consideration of the best means to employ the army to suppress disorderly assemblies throughout the kingdom. The manuscript also contains an order that Catholic festivals be no longer observed, and to be replaced with days of recreation for scholars, apprentices, and other servants; and an order that June 9, 1647 be declared a day of humiliation "in regard of the Distractions of the whole Kingdom."
